Should you settle issues in a divorce action?

One of the dynamics of a divorce is that parties are not inclined to settle issues when they are hurt or angry. The emotions involved in a divorce action makes it extremely difficult for parties to resolve the issues of the marriage rationally.

There may be some issues that your spouse has taken a stand that would be inequitable to you in the division of assets and debts, or that may not be in the best interests of your children. In those circumstances, litigation may be necessary and unavoidable.

However, there may be issues that the parties are not really that far apart in resolving. Consider a compromise of the issues where common grounds exist. Compromise and settlement are better for you and your health in the long run.

Estate Planning

I have met with many clients who have sought legal advice regarding a contract after they have signed the contract. Examples would include contracts to purchase real estate and automobiles. Many times, clients wish to cancel the contract or do not understand the obligations imposed upon them by the signed contract.

It is always best to have all contracts reviewed by your attorney prior to signing them. If the other party to the contract is honest and wants to complete the transaction with you, they will allow you time to have your attorney review the contract.

Remember that the fees you shall incur to have the contract reviewed by your attorney prior to signing it may save you thousands of dollars later if you sign a contract without having full knowledge of the obligations imposed upon you by the contract.

If you should have questions, please call me at (513) 631-0022.
